Jam Primo. Some time since we published a small paragraph on the unsatisfactory nature of much of the jam retailed in the Colony. This reached Messrs Kirkpatrick and Co., of Nelson, and they went to work in a very practical fashion to prove that the jams manufactured by the firm were of the best quality. Two case 3 of assorted jain 3 were sent to this office, with a request that we would thoroughly test the jam along with other brands, and give our opinion. "We are happy to state, frankly and fully that wo tia ye been veryjmuch_jurpri3ed, as prior to the receipt of Messis Kirkpatrick's gift we were unaware that New Zealand could boast of an industry of which it has so much reason" to be prond. The various sorts of jam were testecfby anmnberof perTonsTwHocompsred the samples with other brands, and th*e general verdict is that not only are Mefesrs Kirkp-vtvick's productions far and awayljetter "than any other New Zealand bra n da we c^ n gjffi 1 * 11 ' t>uti *,hey are superior to iSugiiah jams in bf ing i'renhnr. The nearest approach to tne excellence of the Nelson jam was contained in tins bearing the name of a Tasmanian firm, but even in this comparison the Nelson article came out a long way best. We are pleased to be able to give unstinted praise to a genuine local industry, the product of which we can unreservedly recommend to consumers. All of the many persons who have tested the samples are Joud in their praise, and we must unreservedly congratulate Messrs Kirkpatrick and (Jo. upon turning out a genuine tmiE jam tit to grace the tables and please the palates of "the most jn'xurious and fastidious. — " Howke'sßiiy Herald," July~lB. Samples of Kirkpatrick and Co.'a "K " brand of jam havo been forwarded to us, and we are free to confess that they appear to be in every way excellent, and as they become better kaowa in the local market will meat with much appreciation from the heads of households. The maker asserts that none but the purest fruits grown in Nelson are used in his manufactures, and we are content; to accept that assurance. Certainly tho jams possess a richness and freshness ot flavour that beara that assertion out. — Dunedjn. .'iS.tar.^JjUf-S. — —
