Death of an old Identity.

" UNCLE ETJLMEE." Last night Lyttelton was robbed of an old identity — George Bulraer, who will bo better known as "The Old Uncle." He hus resided with Mr J. Roberts, of the firm oi Agn,r and Roberts, tteam launch proprietors of the Port. He was betweeu seventy-iive and eighty year 3of age, the exact year of his birth not being known. "Old Uncle*" was a ship's carpenter, and was on board nearly all the early traders to Canterbury, including the Mermaid, Zealandia, and Merope, and afterwards on board the first of the New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet. Captain Rose, who now acts as agent at Wellington for the- New Zealand Shipping Company, Berved his time as apprentice on board the same ship as that on board which Bulmer was carpenter; and afterwards, when he became a commander of sailing ships, "The Old Uncle " was always shifted about from ! ship to ship, being a great favourite with Captain Rose. The deceased had heen ailing for some time, and his end was not altogether unexpected.
