Sydenham and Addington Working Men's Club.

Annual Meeting. The fifth annual meeting of this Club was held in the Club's Rooms last night; a very full attendance of members pointing to the interest that is centred in its welfare. Mr J. A. Beafctie (the President) occupied the chair, and read the annual report and balance-sheet, printed copies of which were distributed. The receipts for the year had been J6963 7s 4d, and the expenditure <£94i Is, which included £53 principal paid off, leaving a balance of .£l9 163 4d, with a stock valued at .£40 165. Tho assets and liabilities showed a credit balance of .£520 7s 3d. The Auditors' report gave a tribute of praise to the Secretary, Mr J. Prince, for the correct . manner in which ho had kept the books. Some slight discussion arose on one or two items on tho list of assets, which were explained by the President. The report and balance - sheet were unanimously adopted. The following officers were elected : — Mr J. A. Beattie, President ; MrW.Pleasance, Vice-President; Mr S. Wilson, Treasurer ; Messrs J. Rose, H. M'Kay, J. Broome, H. O'Neal, J. Martin and J. Hanbam, members of the Committee. The President and officers elected then returned thanks for the honour conferred on them. Votes of thanks were passed to the scrutineers who had officiated during the election (Messrs N. K. Bowden, H. Emsworth, Conley and Woodhouse), who duly responded. Messrs H. T. Brown and J. Lilly were re-elected Auditors for the year. It was here decided that in future it would be expedient to place the balancesheet in the hands of the members a few days prior to the annual meeting. Some discussion followed respecting the management of tha social gatherings. Eventually it was proposed — " That there be a Sub-Committee formed to carry out the social monthly meetings," five names being recommended for the position. The majority, however, were in. favour of it being lefb in the hands of the Managing Committee. The meeting then considered other matters of detail, and adjourned after passing a vote o£ thanks to the President and retiring officers.
