• Probates.— ln Chambers, this morning, His Honor Mr Justice Ward granted letters of administration in the estate of Frederick Pudney, deceased, to Amelia Evans Pudney, on the application of Mr Widdowson. In the estate of John William Smith Coward, deceased, probate waa granted to Robert Fitzroy Holderness and Francis Grellier Stedman, on the application of Mr Wynn- Williams. In the estate of Richard Vincent, deceased, letters of administration were granted to Thomas [ Whelan, guardian of the infant children, on the application of Mr Izard. I N Battery, Ltttblton. — A smoke concert was held at the Lybtelton Oddfellows' Hall, on Monday evening, by the members of the N Battery of Artillery. The chair was occupied by Lieutenant M'lntyre, and Lieutenant JBrice and Dr Lewis, Honorary Surgeon, 'were also present. After a slight repast had been partaken of by the members, the Chairman presented SergeantMajor Manning with a Sergeant-Major's sword and set of belts, subscribed for by the members, as a slight mark of recognition for valuable services rendered to the battery since its formation. A very enjoyable evening was spent, songs, recitations and step dances, intervening between the various toasts. A Warning to Sailors. — At the Lyfcbelton Resident Magistrate's Court, this morning, two seamen were charged with disobeying the command of the captain of their ship, the Largo Bay. Ono man had previously been before the Court, and he was sent to gaol for three months, while the other got durance vile for thirty days. The excuse of the last offender for not going to work was that the captain refused to supply bim with tobacco. " Yes," replied one of the Justices, who has himselt seen a little sea life; "next you will want a pipe, and then somebody to smoke it for you. Do you call yourself a sailor ? You can go to gaol for one month. There you will get no tobacco, but plenty of .work." . "The Couit is closed," added a constable. Druids.— The Lyttelton Hearts of Oak Lodge held their half-yearly: "summoned meeting for the election and installation of officers for the ensuing term, at St John's School, on Thursday evening. A.D. Bro Serra presided. There waa a large attendance of the Brethren, also D.P. Bro Davis, and Bro Orr of tbc Anchor Lodge. The Secretary's balance-sheet and Auditor's report were read and received, showing the Lodge funds to be increasing, although having a very heavy half-year of bickness. [ The following were the officers elected: — I A.D. Bro W. Dasa ; V.A. Bro E. Harrington ; Secretary, Bro W. J. Harrington (reelected) ; Treasurer, Bro P. Brown (reelected) ; A.D.B.'s, Bros A. Gray and J. Penny ; V.A.B.'s, Bros W. Parlett and P. Henderson; 1.G., Bro D. Gillies; 0.G., Bro C. Beazley; M.S., Bro W. Power; Trustees, Bro. A. Crook and W. Kennedy. A handsomely-framed diploma was presented to P.A. Bro Parker, and a member's collar to Bio Ryder, by the D.P. Bro Davis. Both recipients suitably replied. Vote 3 of thanks were passed to D.P. Bro Davis for the able manner in which he performed the installation; also thanks to Bro Orr and the retiring officers. The Lodge was then closed by the newlyelected A.D.
