The mine with the queer name has turned out well. After all the sneers at Mr Pritchard Morgan and his famous quartz reef, it appears that there is plenty of gold at Mawddach. The virtues of the Dolgelly reef having proved vicious enough to ruin everyone who had previously had to do with it, Mr Pritchard Morgan may be considered a very lucky man. He has succeeded in getting 400oz of gold from 250 tons of quartz, according to the cable messages. That is to say, loz 12dwts per ton, from a large quantity of stone, which would be a good yield anywhere, and in mo3t places very profitable. With J water-power at the mouth of his shaft, and cheap labour for the asking, it appearß as though Mr Pritchard Morgan had, as the diggers say, " Btruck it rich." In fact he seems to be on the high road to wealth. The laugh is new on his side. He laughs best who laughs last say the French. The question is who really will be last in this matter. The experts say that the Welsh quartz reefs are very patchy, long barren stretches succeeding rich ground most exasperatingly. If the next 250 tons of etone should come from barren ground the laugh will eeem to be on the other side once more. Another question is: Will Mr Pritchard Morgan's promises turn out as well as his quartz. He promised as soon as his family were decently provided for out of the ancient mine, to endow schools, charitable institutions, and almshouses broadcast. Of course the 400oz wonld not go far towards such a vast, ambitious scheme, but one wonders if it has been forgotten.
