PICNIC.
The amalgamated bootmakers held their annual picnic on Saturday last in a paddock at Halswell, kindly placed at their disposal by Mr J. Candy. The party, to the number of 500, assembled in the square at 9 a.m., and, headed by the Sydenham Band, proceeded to the scene of enjoyment, where a long programme of sports was got through, including running, walking, jumping, obstacle races, &c, the winners of which received valuable prizes kindly given by Messrs Toomer Bros., Percy, M'Ginley, Stanton, and De la Conr. Boxing, dancing, quoits, rounders, kiBH-in-the-ring, and various other games were indulged in and bapt up with spirit until the rain came on at 5 o'clock. After returning thanks to Mr and Mrs Candy for the kind use of tbeir grounds, the party returned to town after having spent a really enjoyable day.
