RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING RACES.

j Yesterday afternoon a number of Bwimming races between pupils of the Rangiora High School were held in a pool in the lives Ashley, about a quarter of a mile below the cart bridge, in which, a course of about 50yds length was obtained. A. cold north - weßt wind of considerable violence swept over the river-bed during the time the races were in progress, deterring uoma o£ tho intending- competitors from stripping, and limiting it very impleasant foe those who were bold enough to enter tho water. The events were as follows : — Learners' Bace, 40yds. — Peglc-r, 53i?e, 1 ; Anderson, 2scc, 2. Johnston (scratch) was a good third, beating Waberstou (12sec) by less than a foot. Three others started, but did not finish the distance. ■ Long Dive (open to tho wholo school). — Blick, sO£t, 1 ; li. TJirelkeld, 44?fc, 2. Five others competed, oh" whom the beat; wa* Macdouald, 37st'b. The .winner's dive wa3 a very good one, considering that no plunge could he> obtained. 100 yds Kace — Blick, scratch, 1 ; Cunningham, SseCj 2. This event was won easily. Four started. 50yds [Race, for boys under 1-1 — M'Donald, scratch, won with ease ; Pegler, Osec, being second. 100 yds Kace, for boys over 13— Blick, scratch, 1 ; L. Threlkeld, 10s.ee; 2. # 50yds luaoe, open to the whole school — • Bliek, scratch, 1; Cunningham, Byds, 2. Siic started.
