FATAL ACCIDENT. AUCKLAND, Makch 9. The Board of Education have appointed W. H. Airey, assistant teacher of the Thames High School, to the position of Junior Inspector of Schools in the Auckland district. There were twelve applications, including several from the south, and in the final voting Mr Airey received four votes, and Mr Owen J. Hodge, of Dunedin, three. Captain and Mis 3 Gladstone, nephew j and niece of the Eight Hon W. E. Glad- | stone, are at present staying at Waiwera. I The flags were at half-ma3t high to-day j out of respect to the memory of the deceased Emperor of Germany. A man named Walner Morley was killed at Dargaville to-day by the limb of a tree falling upon him.
