A VERY CURIOUS MISTAKE.

* ' To Gaol for a Month. At the Resident Magistrate's Court this morring, before R. Beetham, Esq., Joseph Garretb, alias ■William Carbarry, waß charged with being illegally on. th.it premises of H. Marks early that morning. Evidence was taken that the occupants ot the house heard the accused wandering about the premises. They called for help, when the police came and took the accused in charge. Garrott made a statement to the effect that he had just come back from grass-seeding, had. had a glass or two oi beer, and had lost his way. He thought he was at his camp on the Peninsula, and waa calling out for his mate when he w&a arrested. Evidence was called by the police to show that the man was quite sober when he was brought to the lock-up* Mr Fender said that the man had only just recently been released from gaol, aftei completing a sentence of fifteen years' imprisonment. The Bench declined to believe the prisoner's statement as to hid innocent intentions, and sent him to gaol for one month's itnprisonnient.
