CYCLING.

A considerable number of people assembled at Lancaster Park last evening to watch F. Wood and the other cyclists undergo their training operations, and they were rewarded with some splendid trials. The champion rode on the grass, covering five miles at a good pace, and finished up with a magnificent spurt for a whole lap, with Hay ward and Hall for companions, and doing the lap in 54sec. This evening he will give the onlookers a treat by attempting to lower the half-mile record at seven o'clock. — There is noiv on view in the window of Messrs Milner and Thompson, High street, the addreases presented to Messrs Fred. Wood and W. Brown, the English cyclists, by the members of the Pioneer Bicycle Club, Christchurch, as souvenirs of their visit to New Zealand. The drawing and colouring of each is very cleverly and effectively done. On the upper part of each is a small photo of the recipient, below this is a group representing the officers and Committee of the P. 8.C., and along the lower edge are two water-colour sketches of Lancaster Park and the tracki The whole of each is from the pencil of Mr E. W. Sfcowe, and the work is very creditable. Each picture is complete in a frame of honeysuckle, made by Mr W. Jewell, junr., of Manchester street south.— A general meeting of the North Canterbury Bicycle Club was held at the Junction Hotel, Rangiora, on Thursday evening, and was well attended. Mr T. Boyd was in the chair. On the motion of Mr W. Du Moulin it was unanimously resolved to hold a race meeting on Saturday, March 17, and afterwards the proposer of the motion was appointed Secretary of the gathering, Mr Torlesse's ordinary duties preventing his acting.
