GOLDMINING.
The Discoveries in the North. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 3. _ A rumour is current that gold has been discovered at Pukekohe west, similar to that discoved at Waitoa. A largely- attended public meeting, called by the Mayor, was held at Hamilton on Saturday, to consider the question of the gold discovery at Waihou. It was resolved to urge upon the Government the great necessity tor taking steps to secure the public the full benefit of the gold deposit in the Thames Valley. A Committee was formed with this object.
