FANCY DRESS BALL AT OXFORD.

At the Easb Oxford Town Hall on Friday evening the season was brought to a close by a Fancy Dress Ball, given by the members of the ''Oxford Assemblies." The hall wbb brilliantly decorated, and the stage, which is 40ft deep, was tastefully arranged as a supper room, reflecting the highest credit on tho ladies who superintended that most important department. The evening being fine with bright moonlight, over 70 guests were present, the hall being filled with a gay and motley throng, scarcely two alike. Some quaint and whimsical, others graceful and lovely, presented a coup d'ceil of the most fantastic and animated description, to the no small wonderment of some of the guests, who had only lately arrived from the Old Country, and certainly did not exp9ct anything of the sort in the wilds of "up-country" j Colonial life. The music was excel- I lent, under the leadership of Mr H'Kil- j lop, of the Stanmore Band, and dancing ! was kept up until the early morning. Among the most noticeable of the characters were :— Mrs. W. P. Pearson as Medora, Miss E. Thompson as Good Luck, Miss Ruddenklau as Flora Macdonald, Miss Horreil as a Gleaner, Miss A. Parish as Monte Carlo, Mrs Ingram as Patience, Misses Calliss and Wilßon as Night, Miss Scott as Morning, Misses Chisnell and Robilliard as Normandy peasants, I Mrs Cooper as Nancy Lee, Miss A. Dohrman as a Gipsy Girl, Mis 3 Kate Dohrman as Spring, Miss Edith Thompson as Mary Queen of Scots, Mrs Nell as Queen of Hearts, Miss Brander as a Gipsy Girl, with many others which space does not permit of giving. Among the gentle- I men were Mr H. Ruddenklau aa a Naval j Lieutenant, Mr F. Ruddenklau as Major j 42nd Foot, Mr Duke Dixon as Beefeater of 16fch Century, Mr Blackett as a Chef, Mr F. Harley as a Neapolitan, Mr F. Luers as a College Cadet, Mr Stirling and -Mr Scott as Highlanders, Mr J. Weld, Mr Hendert « , and Mr Parkinson as athletes, MrH. Horreil as a Footman. Mr M'Killop as a Spanish Barrister, Mr Midgley as Grosvenor the resthete, Mr C. Pritchard as Little Boy Blue, Mr J. Cook as Lawn Tennis, Mr E. Hartland as a Cyclist. Mr ! R. H.
