Malvern.
Great injury was done to the telegraph, wires. Por about five miles east . of Sheffield a large number of poles were down, and to the west of Sheffield the lines are virtually down for several miles. The breaks were traced as far as the Kowai, and probably extend farther, but this could not be ascertained yesterday. The Whitecliffs line is down for several miles beyond Coalgate. These, breaks interrupt the direct line to the West Coast, but communication was kept up by way of Blenheim. The line between Hokitika and Bealey was interrupted till seven o'clock last night, when communication was restored. It will, however, be probably several dayß before the wires in the Malvern district can be put right.
