DRAINAGE BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Christchurch District Drainage Board was held last night; present r— Mr W. Vincent, Chairman, and Messrs HosMng, Barns, Stevens, Boag, and Manning. The Secretary and Treasurer's report waa read as follows : — Amount of rates received since last meeting, "£1777 13s 10d; received from other sources, .£46 14s j expenditure since last meeting, £328 18b 7d ; amount of 1886 rates outstanding, £194 15s 3d; amount oi 1887 rates outstanding, £11461 163 8d ; amount of 18S7 rates, collected to date, .£7814 11b lid; bank overdraft, £2431 3s. The 1886 valuation for sewage, and rural Sydenham, will have to be modified from that as first supplied, to agree with subsequent advice, as follows :— In sewage Sydenham the correct valuation , £529,134, instead of £638,159, making a I deficit in the rate of £28 4s Id. In rural i Sydenham the correct valuation is— r 45165,485 instead of £146,994-, making an excess in the rate of £15 8s 2d. Authority is requested to write off the former amount, viz., £28 4s Id. The report wa3 adopted. engineer's eefobt. The Engineer's report was read, and dealt with clause by clause. j COBKESPONDBNCE. Correspondence was read : — From the Works Committee of the City Council, consenting to pay 4JIO to repair the Buckley's road drain. The Engineer reported that the work had been done at a cost of £10 14s. Mr Manning moved— " That the offer be accepted."' The resolution was carried. From the same, asking authority to write off the rates en the Catholic schools to the amount of £25 10s. The Engineer aaid that the Board had been advised that the rates could not be collected. They had been beaten on the question in the Magistrate's Const. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee. From the same, asking if the rate on the Drillshed (£10) should be collected. Mr Barns moved — " That the request be declined." From Mr Redpath, calling attention to the unhealthy state of the drainage in Tuam street, and asking to have part covered in. After some discussion it was proposed— "That the Works Committee should have power to act in concert with the Linwood Town Board, but not to incur any large, expenditure." The proposal was agreed to. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee's report was read, and dealt with clause by clause. The appointment of Mr W. H. Cbeeseinan as assistant clerk was approved, as was the report as a whole. ACCOUNTS. .Accounts to the amount of £369 16s Id were passed for payment. TENDERS. Three tenders for casting flushing valves were read, and that of Wm. Lucas, £105 18s 9d, was accepted. Jackson's creek. Mr Stevens moved — " That all obstructions in Jackson's Creek between Selwyn and Jerrold streets, 3i chains, be removed." The matter was referred to the Works Committee. After dealing with some minor matters the Board adjourned. Statement showing amounts of rates collected and outstanding in each district to September, 1887.
