Sacrkd Coxcert.— We observe that a Sacred Concert will be given in the Sydenham Baptist Church to-morrow evening, ana as the programme ie an excellent one, we have no doubt there will be a. large attendance.

iNDtrsTRiAi, Conversazione.— The Industrial Arts Conversazione will be open for the convenience of country visitors and fannies to-morrow (Tuesday) afternoon, tram 2 to 5 p.m.

Rain-kali^ in Jolt, ISB7.— Mr J. B. Staneell's record of the rainfall for last month gives a total of 604 in. The direction of the wind when rain fell was :— S.W. 10 days; W., 1 day ; N.E., 1 day ; E., 1 days total, 13 days. This is the heaviest rainfall for July since a record* was begun to be kept, viz., 1864. The nearest; approach to the last month's rainfall was in July, 1873, when 5-7Goin fell. The average fall for the past seven years was 3'slin.

Footbali,.- The match between the Normal Students and the first fifteen of Kaiapoi was played on Saturday at Kaiapoi, and resulted in a win for the former by two points. The Kaiapoi Club played under considerable disadvantage, having one man disabled early in the game, and owing to the unavoidable absence of eight of the seniors, their places had to bo filled by members of the second fifteen. The Normals were not playing with their strongest team, as three of their best men were away, playing in other matches. The game, however, was well and fairly contested throughout, and some excellent play was shown on both sidea. The visitors had considerable advantage ia point of weight, which told throughout the match in their favour.

The^ SypENHAsr Druids.— A social gathering was held on Friday night in the Oddfellows' Hall, Colombo street, Sydenham, by the Oak of Sydenham Lodge of Druida. The Committee are to be complimented on the success of their first social of the season. There were about 350 persons present, and all apparently enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The programme consisted of dances interspersed with songs, hornpipes, and the Highland fling. The two latter items were given by Messrs J. Carr and J. Bl'Gregor in their usual good style, and^received an encore. The following ladies and gentlemen gave songs (several being redemanded): Mesdames Warner and Steneer, Misses A. Speirs and E. Hill, and Messrs Hutton, Haige, Shier, and Maurice. Mr Steneer gave a flute solo, Mr Brockett presided at the piano, and Mr J. Miller acted as M.C. Mr J. Weir, who -was Chairman, having thanked those present for their attendance, the social was brought to a close.

given in the famous Grain Agency Theatre during the coming election. By reference to our advertising columns it will be seen that the programme is of a nature entirely novel to theatre-goers.
