TO-DAY'S TELEGRAMS. THIRD EDITION. New Guinea Exploration.
pjEtJTER's Telegrams,} fEeceived August 1, at 12.50 p.m.] COOETOWN, August 1. News is to hand from New Guinea that 'the exploring party despatched by Special Commissioner Douglas have returned to I Port Moresby. They reached the top of the main range between Mount Obree and Mount Browne. They report that a magnificent country exists on the other side. The natives all along the coast are quiet. The Catholic missionaries on Yule Island are making good progress inland. They have discovered a new river and an exceedingly fertile country, which is thickly populated, some of the villages being of great size.
