CONNECTING THE BALTIC SEA AND THE GERMAN OCEAN.

The festivities at Kiel in honour of the Emperor's visit to lay the foundationstone of the lock on the Baltic side of the canal that is to connect that sea with the German Ocean pas3ed off brilliantly. Herr von Bofcticher, acting as substitute for the Imperial Chancellor, read the inaugural address, after -which. Herr LerchenfeldKofering, the first Bavarian delegate to the Federal Council, and Herr von WedellPiesdorf, President of the Reichstag, respectively presented the Emperor with the trowel and hammer. Dr Kogel, First Court Chaplain, then consecrated the work, and Handel's " Hallelujah Chorus" was sung by the choir in attendance, after which Herr von Botticher called for three cheers for the Emperor, which were given by tho entire assembly with great enthusiasm. The proceedings closed with the singing of the National Antnem. The Emperor then returned to Kiel, and reached Berlin at midnight, none the worse for the day's fatigue.
