CHABITABLE AID REQUIREMENTS.
DUNEDIN, Ehh. 7. At the City Council to-night the Finance Committee reported that only JGQ2OO waa available for city works, which last year cost .£10,204. This was mainly due to the large contribution required for charitable aid, amounting to .23200. The Committee were of opinion that at no distant date there would have to be a special rate for charitable aid purposes. With the view of lessening the annual charge of heavy interest on the overdraft, they recommended that legislatiTsa power be ap.ught to allow money to bo received on fixed depooita.
