The Escaped Prisoner, Crabtree.
I AN EXCITING NIGHT CHASE. A NAUEOW SQUEAK. [Per Press Association.] ! WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. i Late last night a young man named Bolton discovered a man in a passage between two houses in Molesworth street, ;. but at the approach of footsteps the man jumped a gate and ran up the street, followed by Bolton. Turning into Pipitea : street all trace of him lost. On a subsequent examination oi tiie spot -wt^a tb«, man was first discovered, two shirts were found, marked with the broad arrow, and bearing the number which the prisoner Crabtree bore m gaol. The description '. tallies with that of the escaped prisoner. I The police were informed, and a thorough ! search of the neighbourhood made; but ( although the search was continued all I night, no trace of the prisoner was found. ■ It is supposed that he sought safety in one ! of the numerous gardens at that end of the i town. It is believed that the clothes worn by the prisoner are those stolen from the i premises of Mr Gill, which were entered j early on Monday morning, and that the > escaped prisoner was in the act of changing his shirt when disturbed by Bolton.
