attendance was only moderate. A splendid ' wicket had been prepared, and the ground was in first rate order. The Australians winning the toss elected to bat, and when ' the stumps were drawn had made 206 for ! the loss of five wickets. The score 3 are as ! i ollowß : — Palmer, bowled 14 Trumble, bowled .... ... 25 Jones, bowled 47 Jar vis, caught and bowled ... 37 Trott, runout 33 Blackham, not out 24 LE*STON V. LANCASTER PABK. The Lce3ton Eleven played a team of the Lancaster Park Club, on the Park ground ; yesterday, and were beaten by two wickets, j The country Club went first to the wickets, i Loughnan was badly run oat in the second i over, but Frith and Willis made a capital stand. Fifty- three runs had been Ecored when the second wicket fell. Frith was the outgeer: he played in his free style, but was let off by the field three times. The nest wicket tell with no alteration to the score. Dr Withers made two splendid leg hits for 6 and 5 each, and was playing in good style when he was ckan bowled with a ball well up Lock wood had just joined Willis when an adjournment was made for lunch, Willis having made 44 out of • the total of 110. On resuming, Lockwood . soon knocked up 18, and was then caught. { Hani*nond was the only other man who got into double figures. The score at the fall of the last wicket amounted to 186, out of which Willis made 84 not out. He saw nine of his colleagues retire, but his batting was marred by many chances. The fielding of the Park men was bad, and thus accounts for the good total.
A match was played yesterday between the Eaat Cbristchurcti and Eicrmaond schools, which resulted in a draw in favour of tbe latter.
