Arrangements are being made for a squad of the Dunedin Highlanders to vißit Christchurch in order to fire a rifle match with the Canterbury Scottish. Efforts are being made to obtain the Opawa range for the match, which is to take place on Boxing Day.

At the sale of work at Sfc Mary's, Merivale, on Monday next, in aid of the Sunday School funds, there will he a large and varied assortment of useful articles on sale. A gigantic Christmas tree ehould prove an attraction for the young ones, and in the evening some of the lady parishioners will produce a series of tableaux vivants. At the Amberley Police Court yesterday, a number of individuals, who had been amusing themselves, and annoying other people, by an nmatetir drum performance, were each fined ten shillings and costs.

Messrs H. Crooks and T. Qapes, the delegates sent from Christchurch to the Foresters' conference in Wellington, returned to town this morning. They desire to record their appreciation of the great kindness and hospitality with which the Wellington Foreßters treated the visiting members of the Ord.?r.

The member s of Harry Power's newlyformed Comedy and Burlesque Company leave OhrisV-hurch this evening for Wellington, Miss Gwyune Herrick accompanying them, under engagement to Mr Power. By arrangement with Mr Marshall, of Wellington, the Company will open in the Theatre Royal there at Christmas, producing a pantomime. A bazaar and promenade concert is to be held at the Oddfellows' Hall, Amberley, on Tuesday next, in aid of the Church funds. The show at the stalls may be predicted to prove specially attractive, as the ladies of the district have been engaged for a length of time in making the necessary preparations. They have, besides, been successful in securing many contributions from Christchurch and elsewhere.

During next week, the justice commonly dispensed at the Resident Magistrate's Court will be administered at the Provincial Council Chamber. The reason for this is that the fl;K>r of the Court room in the newer building is about to be taken up and relaid. It appears that in several places the boards touch the ground, and have in consequence become rotten. One or two of the boards have given way, in one instance, it is stated, on account of the energetic stamps which a legal luminary employed to enforce his arguments in a certain case.

The quarterly meeting of the Broomfield District School Committee wjb held on Dec. 15 ; present — Mr C. W. Purchas (Chairman), Messrs Coleman, Stanton, T. Cramptdn, R. Thompson. The Chairman stated that he had received no answer to his letters to the Board re painting the schoolroom. He was requested to wait upon the Board to know their decision in the matter. A letter from the Board was opened, enclosing the Inspector's report. The Committee think it wise not to make any remarks upon it, as the attendance Las been very low for many months past, owing to illness, and also to the wet weather in the winter. The master's monthly report was read, which showed the number now on the roll to be thirty-nine.
