WANGANUI, Dec. 18.

A Bowling Club has been started here. The green waa opened last night by a number of Taranaki players. The Club has decided to join the New Zealand Bowling Association. The Chamber of Commerce has passed -fche following resolution, respecting the Bailway time table : — " That whatever maybe the importance of express trains between Wellington and New Plymouth, -this Chamber considers that the business, as a.i well as the convenience of townspeople and settlers between Falmeraton and Hawera has been sacrificed by that service, and strongly recommends that the old time table be again used, with slight alterations, independent of the express trains \ and also that a deputation from -the Chamber wait on the Hon E. Richardson on Saturday to urge the necessity of an alteration."

The mission of Sir William Fox and Mr Glover, in connection with the New Zealand Alliance, cannot be termed a success. Mr Glover created a very bad impression by intimating that the proportion of lunatics for -which Wanganui was often chaffed, was due to the twenty-one "hotels in the town. He also more than hinted that the doctors at the hospital lolled a girl recently by giving her champagne and brandy. The general feeling ■even among temperance advocates is that the two will do harm to the cause. Unfavourable comparisons are drawn between Mr Matthew Burnett and Mr "Glover.
