The Evangelists.
o MESSRS MATEER AND PARKER. A correspondent has sent us some particulars of the two evangelists now conducting services here, from which we extract the following : — Messrs Mateer and Parker have held most successful meetings "in the Old Country and America, and Mr Spurgeon paid them the compliment of saying that they had done eminent service. In America they appear to have been particularly successful, and were received with enthusiasm by Christians of many denominations besides their own — the Baptist Church. Mr Mateer, the preacher, is the son of the Rev Samuel Mateer, a missionary in India. Mr Parker, who is, like Sankey, a singer, was formerly .engaged in evangelistic work with the celebrated revivalist, Moody, in England. He met Mr Mateer at Spurgeon's College, and the present partnership was the outgrowth of the friendship formed there. He has a powerful baritone voice, which he uses very effectively in rendering the familiar Moody and Sankey music.
