The Imperial Parliament has adjourned: until August 19. During the interval the Ministers' elections take place. The War Office has issued orders for three regiments of cavalry to proceed to Burmah, in order to strengthen the forces at present in that country, and enable them to forcibly suppress Ihe Dacoit disturbances. Consols are at If. New Zealand securities : 5 per cent 10;40 loan, 103£; 4f per cent 1879---1004 loan, 99| ex div; 4 per cent inscribed stock, 98. Colonial breadstuff s are unaltered. Tallow-— Beef is unchanged at 24s fid ; mutton, 6d per cwt dearer, 275. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,860,000 quarters, 60,000 quarters more than last week. New Zealand frozen mutton is realising 4|d to 5d per lb. August 7. The Eev T>r Lowden (Professor) has bee». appointed Bishop of Edinburgh in place of the late DrCotterill. Biotine: has been renewed in Belfast. The police were compelled to fire upon the mob in order to quell the disturbance. Seven persons are known to have been injured.

[Special to Press Association,] LONDON, August 7. Sir Saul Samuel and Sir A.'Blyth have congratulated Mr Edward Stanhope on his accession to the office of Secretary for the Colonies. Mr Woods, a merchant of Winnipeg, Canada, is making enquiries at ' the instance of Sir John Macdonald, the Premier of the Dominion, as to the best means of extending the trade between Australia and Canada, previous to the early visit of Sir John to HSyaney. Messrs M'Farlane, Strange and Co., Limited, gas and water pipe manufacturers, have received the contract for the supply of 5000 tons of pipes for Newcastle, New South Wales.
