The Fire Brigade Committeeof the City Corporation have drawn up a report for presentation at next meeting of the Council. They suggest that the strength of the Brigade should be at once increased from 24 to 30 men, that the Brigade should be placed under a captain who should devote the whole of his time to the duties of his office, and be responsible to the Council for the efficient condition of the plant and the working of the Brigade, and who shall be paid a salary of £200 per annum. A cablegram has been received by the Government intimating that between 2,000,000 and 3,000,000 of herring ova were shipped by the Ruapehu.
