OFFENDING SALVATIONISTS PUNISHED.
BLENHEIM, Eeb. 2G. Cadet Duggan and threo other members of the Salvation Army were each fined 40a and coats for obstructing the Market place. The Volunteers, under command of Major Baillie, were parading, and the Salvationists deliberately obstructed and annoyed them, and caused a great crowd to collect. I_he disturbance was so great that the Major could not give the word of command, and the men were kept standing at ease for a considerable time, for fear of collision -with the Salvationists, whose conduct greatly annoyed them. The cadets attempted to march off the ground, but the crowd broke their rank.. Defendants pleaded that they went there simply to assert their right of meeting, and not to obstruct and annoy. The Bench pointed out that, as evory protection and consideration had hitherto been extended to the Salvationists, they could not expect, much consideration if they deliberately broke the law. The police withdrew three other .charges against defendants, arising out of the same affair.
