Discovery of Wreckage near the Wakanui Creek.

TnE SUPPOSED EXPLANATION. Thia morning the following telegram was »eceived by Mr A. liose, Collector of Customs, from Sergeant Felton, stationed at Ashburton, " On Feb. 23, about three miles north of Wakanui Creek, a piece of wreck waa driven on shore, or washed np. It is a piece of keel, twenty-two feet long, with fifteen feet of the bottom remaining on one side, and cix feet oa the other. It is sheathed with Muntz metal, with bolts of the Bame met .1. The false keel and kelson ara gone. There is no trace of any name or of any cargo or other de'bn's. The portion of wreck is near j where the Elibank Ca6tle was.-" I Mr Bose is of opinion that it is possible that the wreckage is a portion cf the barque Clyde, which was lost on Nov. 6, 1884, at Snuffle Poiut, near Horseshoe Bay, four miles from the South Head of Akaroa harbour. There is, it is Bupposed, an inland or reflex current running southwards along the shore line of the Ninetymile beach, which would probably carry any wreckage towards the Bpot where the portion of keel just described has been found.
