German Advances in the Pacific. [Kbfter's Telegrams.] [Beoeived Feb. -23, at 2 p.m.l LONDON, Fib. 22. The Committee which was appointed under the Chairmanship of ' Mr Childers to enquire into the circumstances surrounding the recent riots in the West End, has sent in a, report urging that a full enquiryshould be made into the management of the Metropolitan Police force. • In consequence of this report Sir Edmund Henderson, K;C.B., Commissioner of* Police, has tendered his resignation of that office.
BERLIN, Feb. 82. It is announced that Germany has. declared a Protectorate over the Marshall; Brown; and Providence groups of islands in the North Pacific. Tiie German Government has officially informed the British Foreign Office of their assumption of" the Protectorate.
