j This Day. j (Before R. Beethani, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. — Frederick Lane was • convicted of this offence and fined £1 or 48 hourß' imprisonment in default. \ Married Women's Property Proteci tion Act. — On the application of Annie ' S. H. Moule an order was made under this Act, protecting her earnings from her husband, Stephen Cole Moule, who had deserted her. She was also given the custody of her child. Disobeying Oeder op Court. — James Westfield was accused of neglecting to l pay 10s per week towards the support of his family as ordered by the Court. The order had been made in August, 1883, and since then he had paid only J64 10s. Defendant's excuse was that he had for a ■ long time been unable to get work. His j Worship said there was a bad report of ' accused from the overseers at the Waiau, ! where he had teen recently employed j under the Charitable Aid Department. ! Accused was reported as idle and a bad j workman. In short, he was a loafer, and ' for his constant neglect to obey the order of the Court he would be sentenced to three months' hard labour. Judgment for plaintiff with costs. — Stringer v. T. Clarkson, claim .£8 16s Id, balance of account due 'for legal charges (including fees out of pocket) in connection with passing defendant through the Bankruptcy Court and obtaining his discharge. Defendant pleaded the protection under the Bankruptcy Act, whicn his solicitor had* obtained for him, as a reason for I not paying the costs incurred in ob- | taining that protection. His Worship held the defendant liable, and gave judg- J ' ment for the amount claimed, with costs. — ' The case bf Hazelhurst v. Johnston was adjourned to Dec. 17.
