OPAWA SALE OF WORK.
I ♦ The parish of St Mark's, Opawa, is famous for advancing its prosperity by every legitimate means in the shape of bazaars, garden fetes, and the like wellknown means of raising funds. An open air sale of work took place yesterday in the pretty garden of the parsonage, the proceeds of which it is intended shall go towards a fund for erecting a building to serve as a Sunday school, and for other various parochial purposes. A site has been secured close to the Church, and .£IOO was voted last session of Synod for the object in view, and this sum the sale of work was intended to supplement. j The two principal stalls were cared for by ' Mi's March and Mrs Parsons, assisted by j Mesdames Shanks, A. Dobson, Norris, and Misses Povey, Kent, Leach and Hales. To all appear inces, "trade was brisk" at their stalls during the afternoon, and would probably have been even more so had the weather turned out less chilly. The reI fresh ment and flower stalls were, however, ' keen rivals for custom. They were tended, * the former by Mrs Cholmondeley, assisted ' by Mrs Cane, the Misses G. Reeves, G. and M. Leach, Thomson and R. Tabart, and the i lattor by the Misses Match, Fry and E. Harley. Most enjoyable music was
provided by the Orphanage Band, ( who were thoughtfully entertained by Mrs March, directed in their music by Mr Rilehey, and generally supervised by that gigantic and terrible hero, their drummajor, accomplishing great things under his eagle eye. A large and popular bran ■ cake, whose virtues were proclaimed, if not \ aloud upon the housetop, at all events in an j equally efficient place and manner by Mr Vincent, seemed an attractive feature in , the entertainment. Large numbers of j parishioners and friends from further afield j gave the undertaking their support, and ; on the whole it was most successful.
