A CURIOUS BEQUEST.
. WELLINGTON, June G. I An extraordinary bequest has been made . by an old Wellington resident rsmitly
deceased. In the early days of the settlement ho experienced some kindness at the hands of Sir W. Fitzherbort, and in recognition of this he, bein# a member of the Roman Catholic Church, has bequeathed the sum of .£25 to Bishop Kedwood to be expended in masses for the repose of Sir W. Fitaherbert's soul when the hon Speaker oi the Legislative Council shall die. . The chief Wahanui has not yet arrived in Wellington. It is believed he is visiting the Natives at the various pahs between here and Wanganui. The Te Aro Licensing Commissioners have granted most of the houses an extension to 12 o'clock. Sir William and Lady Fox left for Sydney to-day en route to England. The action brought by Mr G. Thorne against the Government Insurance Department, claiming damages, will not come on for hearing until August next.
