Working Men's Political Association.
The usual monthly general meeting of the members of the above Association was held last evening at the Temperance Hall, Gloucester street west. The President, Mr G. Dorney, occupied the chair. There was a good attendance of members, and five additional names were placed on the roll. The President read the written resignation of the Secretary, Mr J. Julius Parker. On the motion of MrHandyside, seconded by Mr Pozzi, it was resolved — " That the resignation of the Secretary bo accepted with regret." Mv Biltcliff then nioved^-' ' That the best thanks of the Association be tendered to Mr Parker for his past services as Secretary." The motion was carried unanimously, and Mr Parker having briefly returned thanks, proposed Mr Charles J. Eae as his successor The proposition was seconded by Mr Fisher and carried unanimously. Mr J. J. Parker was then elected a member of the Committee, and the election of new members wa3 proceeded with. A motion, of which notice had previously been given by Mr J. J. Parker — " Thatcertain members of the House of Representatives and leading Colonial statesmen should be invited by the Association to address public meetings in Christchurch," was discussed at some considerable length. An amendment by Mr Joseph Jebson, that the question beconsidered that day six months, was subsequently carried by a very narrow majority. Correspondence re the formation of aBranch of the Association at Springfield was read, and, on the motion of Mr Guinness, it was resolved neni. con., thattwelve copies of the Society's rules, and 50 claims for enrolment forms bo forwarded to Springfield by the Secretary. The recent correspondence between Mr Dorney and Mr Howland was then considered, and on the motion of Mr Jebson,. seconded by Mr Gates, the following resolution was carried by acclamation — " Thatthis Association cordially approves of the action taken by Mr Dorney, as President, with regard to Mr Howland aiid the Stanmore election." After some routine business referring to the auditor the Association's books, arrangements were made for several of the members to assist at the opening of the new branch at St Albans, and the meeting: I closed.
