POLICE RETRENCHMENT.

AUCKLAND, June 7. Fraud is suspected in connection with the insolvency of Moncrieff, at Ohinemutu. Major Green has laid an information against the Natives who assaulted him at Cambridge. It is reported here that the proprietor of one of the hotels to which licenses have been refused intends to issue a writ against the Licensing Commissioners for J23000 d images. It is said that three first-class police sergeants are to be removed from Auckland and their place filled by a Sergeant-Major. This is by way of retrenchment.
