THE "WAVE OF LIFE."
WELLINGTON, Not. 20. Enquiries made regarding the letter alleged to have been written by the Maori members to the Aborigines Protection Sooiety have elicited tho fact that it was written in Wellington during the session by a European named M'Beth. A copy of the letter has since been offered to the Press for publication at the modest price of twenty-five guineas, but it did sot meet with a purchaser, i It was alleged the money was required by the Natives, but Major Te Wheoro denies having ever authorised anything of the kind, and further wishes to contradict the statement cabled from London, that the letter charged the New Zealand Government with preventing Tawhiao from visiting the Queen. A fisherman at Forirua harbour picked up on Wednesday a companion made of cedar, with window in front, belonging to a vessel about 50 or 60 tons ; also a life buoy having " Wave of Life " painted on it. The Wave of Life, a vessel owned at Lyttelton, is now overdue. At the Magistrate's Court to-day a young foreigner, named George Abelli, was charged with having set fire to the Waterloo Hotel, Kaiwarra, on Oot. 27. After the prosecutor's evidenoo was taken the case was adjourned. ___^__________
