Dbttnkhnnbss.— Mary Ann Douglas was fined 10s for thiß offenoe ; and the same fine was imposed on a young man, named Alexander Stewart, who had entered a house in Durham street and assaulted the inmates. — Eliza Wilson and Catherine Meredith, two women whoie appearances beforo the Benoh had not in ony way rosembled angels' visits, were sent to gaol for three months. — Joseph Allen, who had been found drunk in the streets of Sydenham, was fined 5s. — A first offender was aho fined ss. Labobky.— Charles Frazer was charged with stealing a purse containing £1 4s 3d, the property of John Bartley. Aooused admitted the offenoe, and the facts of the case, aB relafod by Inspector Pender, showed that an impudent robbery had been committed. Prisoner had stopped at the Caledonian Hotel, and 'slept in the same room with the barman, who, unsuspecting, loft his purse on the table whon he went downstairs in the morning, prisoner remaining in the room. Shortly after, the barman wanted some ohange, and ran up for his purse, only to find that both it and the prisoner had gone. He followed the prisoner, however, and saw him throw the puree into a paddook. Sentenced to three months' hard labour. —Samuel Martin, a young man, was oharged with stealing £5 15s, the property of Henry Scarf, at Timaru. The aoewsed, who asserted his innooence, had been arrested by deteotive O'Connor, on warrant, from Timaru, on the previous day. The Christohuroh police knew nothing of the oase, and aooused was remanded to appear at the Timaru Besident Magistrate's Court on Monday. — Henry Taylor, oharged on remand with stealing two overooats belonging respectively to Messrs Ballantyne and Co., and Mr W. Barshdt, now pleaded guilty to both offences (on tho previous day be had only admitted stealing one of the coats). He pleaded that he had been under the influence of drink, and did not know what ha was about at the time. Constable Hayes, who had arrested the prisoner, said he was quite sober. Sentenced to two months' hard labour. Attbhptbd Suioidb.— Henry Dormer, on remand from August 31, was oharged with this offence. The aooused, it will be remembered, was a young man employed at tha Agricultural College, Lincoln, and had tried to poison himself. He had been remanded in order that his mental oondition might be observed, and was now considered to be in a fit state for discharge.
