Dbunkennbss.— A firßt offender, who had given himaelf into the ouatody of Sergeant Moore on the previous day, was remanded to June 16, to enable him to undergo ourative treatment. — Another man, who had never appeared under a similar charge before, was fined 6s. Alleged Labobmt. — Angelica Toulope was accused of stealing a ohair, valuo ss, the property of Walter Barnett. The accused was a young French woman, who had arrived in the Oolony about bix weeks ago. She was living olose to the proseoutor's general dealer's shop in Oxford terrace. Amongst other goods exposed for sale outside Barnelt's Bhop was a seoond hand cane-bottomed ohair. The furniture of acoußed's house waß very scanty. According to the evidence of a young woman who lived with her there were no chairs in the place till the evening of May 4, when accused brought in a ohair, saying she had given 10s for it. The witness said this occurred at -6 p.m., but the prosecutor stated that he did not miss the ohair from hia shop front till after 7 pm. On May 11, when accused was moving her belongings from the house she previously occupied, Barnett saw tho chair on the van and identified it as the one be had missed. Accused said, in answer to the Bench,, that she had purohased tho chair for 6s from a young 'man who came to her house late ono night. Hia Worahip said there was a discrepancy in the evidence for the prosecution as to the time the ohair was stolen, and aooused would be discharged.
