Detthzbiothss.— Hugh Bobinson was convietedofdrunkenness and indecency, and fined 5s for the first offenc?, and £1 for the aecond. — Annie Wharton, A. Johnston, John Edwards, and Thomas Daly were fined lOj eaoh for drunkenness. — Lucy Weston, who was now recovered from tho effects of drinkin-;, was discharged on payment of 10. 6d ocst of maintenance. IJABOEirr as A Bailbe.— G. P. Bailey was accused of the larceny, as a bailee, of a grey mare, the property of Alexander Fleming, of O.maru. Tbe accused, a respeotable looking young man, bad been arrested on warrant from the Oamaru Bunch. Inspector Ponder said that as the offence had been committed in the Chriscchuroh distriot, and as all tbe witnesses except Dr Fleming were in town, it would perhaps be as well to dispose of tho charge hero and not remand the accused to Oam«.ru. Mr Joynb appeared for the accused, and applied that tho present bail might bo enlarged. Bcmanded to Friday next, to appear in Ohristchurch. 8-EA_ing a Coat.— Michael Carroll waß charged with stealing a coat, value £2 120 6 1, the property of B. J. Farrell. Inspeotor Pender called Benjamin Farrell, who said he was staying at the Wellington Hotel on Saturday and Sunday last. Had left the overcoat (produced) in the passoge of the hotel, from whore it woe missed. On Sunday afternoon one of the hotel servants had seen scoueod going out of the hotel with 3 coat over hia arm. The prisoner had subsequently sold the coat in question for 5s to a man oatside the White Hart Hotel. The prosecutor's suspicions woro aroused ; he took tho coat to tho police station, and thus led to the arroat of the off»ndi-r. In anßwer to tha Bench, tbe acoused said he had no recollection of the occurrence ; it seemed quito mysterious to him. DBTTHKENNBSa AKD ASSAULT. — GeorgO Brown, a cab-driver, and tho keeper of tho Railway Temperanco Boarding-bouse, wua aooused of being drunk and assaulting Mary Wateon and John Garry on Saturday night. The evidence ahowed that tha accused had been drunk on the South Town belt, and had insulted Mrs Watson, who was walking with her husband, sei_ing hold of her and c itching herhmband by the throat when ha interft-'od to protect his wife. Tho accused had subsequently gone to Fowler's boarding-houde and creatod a disturbance. John Garry, who was there, endeavoured to restrain him, when the prisoner drew a knife and cut Garry on the hoad, inflicting a flesh wound that fortunately was not sorioua. Accused urged in excuse for his oonduct that his wife persisted in going to Fowler'e, although he had warned her not to do bo. He alleged that tho Fowler's and their friends held " councils of war " as to tho bast means to annoy him, aud that it was owing to this provocation that he " got in a fury," and had been led to commit the offences. Tho Bench considered that, the accused had behaved in a met uproarious manner, and fined him £5 for each assault, and 5s for drunkenne s, £10 5s in all, MisCBLtAKEors. — About twenty persons wore fined 10a eaoh for baing tho owners ef non-registered dogs. — Three offenders who had allowed cows or horses to winder in the streets, were fined 5s each. — Jamos Cotton, who had neglected to provide a " regulation pen " to the satisfaction of Inspeotor Leahy, was fined £1. — A charge of a similar nature against 0. R. Church was dismissed. — George Bull was fined £2 and costs for permitting a nuisance to be caused oc his premises in Oolombo otreet by a defective pan.— Joseph Backhouso, against whom two informations wero laid forallowiDgaseriousnuisance to exist on his promises, was ordered to pay £2; aud Henry Dodd, a cab proprietor, complained against for allowing a nuisance to ariso on his premiseo for wont of proper drainage, was fined the same amount, with costs.— A case against Josiah Meek and James Holes, who were accused of trespaesing in pursuit of game at Heathcoto, was remanded to Friday next on tbe application of Mr Loughroy. PBOTEOTies" Oedebs. — ■ Ellen Yates applied for a protection order as againsi Bobert Yates. Her husband came home drunk on Thursday last, and " pinched her, and fluDg a cat at her." He kept hor well, but when he got drunk, abused her. His Worship advised the complainant not to press the charge, and cautioned defendant to abstain for the future. Oase dismissed. — A similar information against F. G. M. Brittia wan withdrawn after tho caie hod been partially gone into. Mr Oorr appeared for complainant and Mr J. Q. Wiiliams for dofendant. Conobaimbnt OF Bietk. — Mabel Adiv Boyd, Alice Hulbert, Ada Willett, aad Alice Willett, were charged with being concerned

in the disposal of a dead ohild, with a view to the concealment of tho birth of tho said ohild. Mr M'Oonnel intimated that ho wished to apply that eaoh of tho accused should be tried separately. His Worship said he would deal with tho application when the case was gone into. Mr M'Oonnel then asked for a remand till Monday, and also that the accused Boyd might bo allowed to give suretiea in placo of the £100 deposit. Tho Bench concurred, and the accueed were remanded to Monday next.
