At a late period of last night's sitting in the Legislative Assembly the adjournment of the House was carried, and Mr Munro's motion for the appointment of a Select Committee to investigate the railway administration will be treated as a vote of Want of Confidence in the Government. Much angry altercation occurred during laßt night'B debate. Government has announced that a Board will be appointed to assess the amonnt of compensation to be awarded to the sufferers by the Hawthorn Railway accident. The b.s. Rotomahana sailed at midnight for New Zealand. SYDNEY, Dec. 8. The cricket match between the English Eleven and twenty-two of Maitland baa resulted in a victory for the Englishmen ia ono innings, with 15 runs to spare. The following were the scores : —English: First innings, 155. Maitland: First innings, 49 ; second innings, 91. ADELAIDE, Dec. 8. Tho observations of the transit of Venus by Mr Todd, 0.M.G., PostmasterGeneral for South Australia, at Wentworth, were Guccessful. Tho weather was clear, and good views of the internal and external contacts were obtained. The observations hoped for in this city were lost, owing to slight clouds.
