" * Singer Manufacturing Co.— For their Colleotion of Manufacturing Machines a First Order of Merit, Certificate of Gold Medal. The Committee desire to call special attention to the excellence of the Universal Feeding Leather Working Machine. •* * Singer Manufacturing Co.— For the Best Family Sewing Machine, including variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, simplicity of construction and durability, a First Order of Merit, with Certificate of Gold Medal. " Davis Sewing Machine Co.— For their Family Sewing Machine, for its variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, a Silver Medal anu First Order of Merit. In arriving at the merite of this machine as compared with the one exhibited by the Singer Compjny, tho jury have had considerable difficulty in arriving at their decision, and it wiU be satisfactory to the public to know that the awards have beon giveu in the above order after long discussion by a majority of two to ono. OTHER EXHIBITS EXAMINED. Tho Committee have also examined the following machines :— The Household, the Bradbury, the Howe, and tho Wheeler and Wilson, hut beyond possessing some novelties in construction, they have uo special points to entitle them to leading places in this report. Dear Sir.— l am directed by the Committee of Judging and Awards to acknowledge your letter of the 16th inst., and to inform you that when tho Davis' Sewing Machine Company's protest was investigated by the Committee, it was decided to refer the matter back to tho Jnrors of Section VII., asking whether they would kindly reconsider their decision and inform them (the Committee) at an early opportunity whether their deoision given —of a First Order of Merit, Silver Medal— could be altered to a recommendation of certificate of Gold Modal, the reply wis that, after due consideration, they could see no reason for altering the award. This decision was final, and ac-epied by tho Committee, Messrs Fiske and Co. being advised of tho result, consequently the advertisement you refer to is NOT OFFICIAL.
