Singer's Sewing Machines. EEPORT OF JTTEOHS. CHRISTCHURCH EXHIBITION. " SECTION Vll.— (Sowing Machines). " First Order op Merit— Silver Medals. " * Singer Manufacturing Co.— For their Collection of Manufacturing Machines a First Order of Merit, Certificate of Gold Medal. The Committee desire to call special attention to the excellence of the Universal Feeding Loather Working Machine. " * Singer Manufacturing Co.— For the Best Family Sewing Machine, including variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, simplicity of construction nnd durability, a First Order of Merit, with Certificate of Gold Medal, " Davis Sewino Machine Co.— For their Family Sewing Machine, for its variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, a Silver Medal and First Order of Merit. In arriving at the merits of this machino as compared with the one exhibited by the Singer Company, the jury have had considerable difficulty in arriving at their decision, and it will bo satisfactory to the public to know that the awards have been given in the above order after long discussion by a majority of two to one. OTHER EXHIBITS EXAMINED. Tho Committee have also examined the following machines:— The Household, the Bradbury, the Howe, and the Wheeler and Wilson, but beyond possessing some novelties in construction, they have no special points to entitle them to leading places in this report. Dear Sir.— l am directed by the Committee of Judging and Awards to acknowledge your letter of the 16th inst., and to inform you that when the Davis" Sewing Machine Company's protest was investigated by the Committee, it was decided to refer the matter back to the Jnrors of Section VII., aakinjj whether they -would kindly reconsider their decision and inform them (the Committee) at an early opportunity whether their decision given —of a First Order of Merit, Silver Medal— could be altered to a recommendation of certificate of Gold Medal, the reply w*s that, after dne consideration, they could see no reason for altering the award. This decision was final, and accepted by the Committee, Messrs Frske and Co. being advised of the result, consequently the advertisement you refer to is NOT OFFICIAL.
