" Davis Sewino Machine Co.— For their Family Sewing Machine, for its variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, a Silver Medal and Firat Order of Merit. In arriving at tho merits of thia machine ns compared with the ono exhibited by the Singer Company, tho jury havo had considerable difficulty in arriving at their decision, and it will be satisfactory to the publio to know that the awards havo been given in tho above order nfter long discussion by a majority of two to one." Dbab Sin,— l am dirocted by the Committeo of Judging and Awards to acknowledge yonr letter of the 16th inat., and to inform you that when the Davia' Sowing Maohino Company's protest waa inveatigated by the Committee, it waa decided to refer the matter back to the Jnrors of Seotion VII., asking whether they would kindly reconaidor their deoision and inform them (the Committee) at an early opportunity whether their deoision given —of a Firat Order of Merit, Silver Medal— could be altered to a recommendation of certificate of Gold Medal, the reply wia that, after dne consideration, they could see no reason for altering the award. This decision was final, and accepted by the Committee, Messrs Fiske and Co. being advised of the result, consequently the advertisement yoa refer to is NOT OFFICIAL.
