AUOKLAND, Oct. 4. At the Supreme Court, jest-rd-ir, John David, charged wlh stealing £60 from Thomas Daviß, hotelkeeper at Kanao, was acquitted. At the Supreme Oourt to-day a nolle prosequi waa entered in tho case of Lyttlp, oharged with bigamy, and tho prisoner was discharged. Bamuel Joy, for bigamy, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment without hard labour. DUNEDIN, Oct. 4. The Union Company are advised of tho launching of their new steamer Tarawera, to eail on Nov. 29. , _ , _ Tho Daily Times Company has declared an interim dividend of 7 per cent. The Befrii{cr_ting Company has ohartered tho b.b. Sorrento to load frozen meat. The Health Officer's report shows that of late there has been an alarming increase of fever. During tho last month twenty-font' cases wore reported. Dr Sdaunaell has urgently submitted that tho Council should not delay in the matter of erecting a fever hospital. The Council resolved to recommond Government to erect Buch a building on a portion of tho Dunedin Hospital ground. INVHEOABGrTLL, Oct. 4. A sad occidont happened on tho Mataura river last night. Two young men, named John aod William Smith, were coming down in a boat when a squall struck and oapsized her. John managed to reaoh the shore, but William was drowned.
