Tbe Union Company's steamer Penguin arrived from Nelson and Wellington thia morning, and left -or Akaroa aad for. Chalmers at 11.20 a.m. The Wigtonsbire will, it ia stated, leave here for a port ia the Eiist, and probably the Glaois. The charters of foar othor reseats not yet arrived have baan cancelled, acd they will probably go East where freights aro reported as being good. The ship British Yooraftn will not discharge at this port, but rroceed on to an Americas port, clearing here for Guam. She will probably leave about Saturday, One of the Damns connects 1 with the engines of the steam tug Lyttelton gave oat yesterday, and stopped the steamer working. Tha ship Brilli-jit. from Newcastle, March 8, a-xived yesterday. She comes consigned to the New Zealand Hhipping Company, for whom she loads for London.
Captain Grant, of the Elibank Castle, while on a voyage from Greymouth. reports that on iViaroh 13, tbo vessel being 15 mile- we^t of Stewart Island, the dead body (I a female was passed, -bating faeo upwards. It was tall in stature wiih dark hair, and clothed in a orown coloured dross, and did not appear to have been long in the water.— Dunodin Herald.
