The August-September series of Colonial wool auctions opened to-day. There was a good attendance of borne and foreign buyers. Tbe opening catalogue comprised 8200 bales, and there was a fair demand. New South Wales wools realised about the same prices as at tbe close of last sales, but Fort Phillip wools were weaker, cross-breds and faulty and scoured sorts being £d to ld below closing rates of last auc-

tions.

Wool. — The sales opened on August 23 at the level of last sales, except cross-bred, which bas declined f d to ld per lb. Tbe sales comprise about 343,000 bales. 33,000 have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. The opening catalogue contained 8000 bales.
