DEAB SIB— We, the undersigned ratepayers and electors of the South-east Ward in the City of Christohurch, desire to draw your attention to the similarity which exists in the leading objeot of the candidature of Mr S. Manning and yoorself, viz., the desire of the electors to cany out the Ward System, aa originally designed, by selecting the members from various p_xt_ of the Ward, instead of electing them trom one favoured spat, aa is the cisd at present, and thereby securing a more efficient and satisfactory supervision of the oatlying parts of the Ward and their requirements than is otherwise obtainable. As this contest is being entered into in a most friendly spirit b> the candidates and their friends, wa respectfully beg to suggest to yoa the desirability, under ths circumstances, ot confining the oontest to the two gentlemen who first entered the lists, namely Mr Manning and Mr Hulbert, and whilst offering this Baggostion, we beg to record oox full appreciation of the valuable services which os many occasions yoa readered to the citizens, daring yoar former tenure of ofGce, and also our desire to see yoa _gain, on a future occasion, engaged with equal diligence and faithfulness in discharging the duties of a City Councillor, And remain, dear Sir, Tours faithfully, JOHN ANDEBSON, J.
