KAIAPOI BOARD OF HEALTH.

«. A meeting of this Board was hold on Tuesday ovening, when tho Mayor and Councillors prosent at tho Council meeting attended. Dr Ovenden, medical officer, stated that the sanitary condition of the Borough was exceedingly good, but one case of diphtheria had been brought under his notice that afternoon. Tho patient had been isolated, and every disinfectant used, and ho did not think it would bo serious. He had attended tho meeting of tho Eyreton Board of Health on the previous day, and had urged upon thorn tho necessity of co-operation with the Borough authoritioß and tho Mandevillo and Rangiora Board in the importance of securing tho addition of the clauses to the Health Act, which he had recommended. Their co-operation would lend additional strength to it. He showed that the Govornmont were most particular and precise in the matter of sheep or cattle infected with any disease, but iv cases in which human beings were concerned they were not so particular ; therefore it was nooesEary tliat somo action should be taken. Dr Ovenden said that disease which caused tho fivo deaths that had occurred recently, had beon importod from Christchurch, as he had einco found out that tho ono who first introduced tlie diseaso into tho Eyreton district had been etaying in a house, tho owner of which supplied the neighbours round with milk, and thus the infection hud spread.
