ROAD BOARDS.

HEATHCOTE. The above Board met on Friday lasfc ; present— Messrs F. Jones (Chairman), W. Attwood and G. Dryden.— Mr Dryden apologised for Mr O'Neill's absence.— The Clerk reported the receipts to be £147 sa.— Me gas lamps. The sites were determined on, and the Clerk instructed to get them erected as soon aa they came to hand.— The following persons interviewed the Board : — Mr E. J. T. Ford re bridges over Heathcote, offering a guarantee for the amount to be paid for the bridge opposite Hargood's. The guarantee being satisfactory was accepted, and tho Olerk was instruoted to give Messrs Anderson notice re their contract. — Mesßrs J. E. B*-own and Pratt re taking tramway to Sumner. It was resolved that the Tramway Company be informed that this Board are willing for them to run from the Swing bridge to Sumner township, on condition that satisfactory arrangements can be made as to the position for laying the rails.— The Clerk was instructed to give the neceasary notice to levy a rate in accordance with resolution of Waimakariri Board of Conservators.— The Foreman was instructed to cut the willows along the Avon river. — The Clerk was instructed to call for tenders for metal for Colombo road. — The following correspondence was dealt with : — From Marine Department, returning plans of Heathcote swing bridges approved of. The Olerk was instructed fco give the Bridges Committee notice that the balance for Cemetery road bridge must be either paid to the Board or a satisfactory guarantee given on or before May 27. — From MrJ. H. Hopkins, re drainage rates. It was decided to call a meeting of ratepayers in the Phillipstown schoolroom, on Friday, May 20, at 7.30 p.m.— From Mr T. Cane, re road by his house. The Clerk to re ply .—From Messrs E. S. Harley and others, re footpath on Opawa road. It was decided to make a footpath from fche Parsonage to Enaor's road. — From Messrs Nicholls and others, re road in sandhills. To be done if the coßt is not too much. — From Mr E. Denham, re road by Wright's. To be done with eight yards of metal to the chain. — From Messrs Bedpath and Jameson, re road in rural section 175. The footpath to have screenings put on. — From Messrs Maguire and Parker, re state of Drain road. To be informed that the Board will attend to it as soon as the Drainage Board hand over the road. — From Mr E. Fenton, re road by his hotel. The Foreman fco report as to cost by next Board day.— From Mr C. Comer, Clerk to the Halswell Boad Board, re Dyer's Paes road. The Clerk to reply. — The Clerk was instructed to advertise for Clerk of Works for Heathcote swing bridges. — After passing accounts for £134 10s sd, the Board adijourned.
