The Legislative Assembly has negatived Dr Smith's vote of want of confidence in the Ministry by a small majority, the numbers being 44 against and 39 for the motion. Sir Bryan O'Loghlen, Sir J. O'Shanassy, and Mr M'Kean voted in the minority. Sugar. Latest advices from the Mauritius state that 1300. tons of shipping are on the berth for Australia ; 58,000 tons have been shipped since August 1. Sailed — Rotomahana, for the Bluff. BRISBANE, Dec. 14. A Grand Project. The Ministry received a telegram this afternoon from an influential London firm, promising cordial co-operation in pushing forward the Trans-continental railway project. Ifc further states thafc the present time is considered favourable for that purpose.
