SOCIETIES.

The Dbuids.— A meetiug waa held at the Wharf Hotel, Woolaton, last ovening to take stepa to open a new Lodge in that diatrict, to be called the Anchor Lodge. There was a very large attendance. P. A. J3ro P. Williams occupied the chair. D.P. Bro Swinnerton and P.D.P. Bro Oppenheim were aleo present and explained the benefits of the Order. Dr Hunt was elected Lodge Surgeon. It waa decided to open the Lodge — which promises to be a great succesa — at the Schoolroom, Woolaton, on Wednesday, Dec. 22. Several intending members having received the usual declaration forms, the meeting was closed with a vote of thanka to the Chairman. A.O.F— Court Thistle of the Forest held a special summonaed meeting at their Courtroom, St. Saviour's schoolroom, Sydenham, for the nomination of officers for the ensuing term. There was a good attendance of membora. . Six porsonß were initiated into the Courfc by P.O.R. Bro Jacques, aaaiated by P.C.R. Bro Ward. Three candidates were proposed. A letter was read from the Registrar re the'valuation of the Court, which was proposed to lay over till the yearly ballanceBheet waß received. After the usual routine HJusineaa, the Courfc closed in due form.
