Victoria Street Well. — Two charges of dynamite were diech irged at *ho full depth of the well 3 eaterday, each explosion being distinctly felt and heard at the surface. In the endeavour subsequently to get out the cap of the case which had contained the dynamite, the rod broke, leaving a length at the bottom of the well. This altogether settles the matter of thi9 experiment so far as the lower stratum is concerned, and it is probable now tkt a. charge of dynamite will bo exploded at the first stratum, so as. to utilise some portion of the work. PiiiLLirsTOWX Primitive Methodist CutTBCH. — We have b<»eii requested to call utlcntion to flic special services to bo conducted by the Rev A. J. Thbatee Royal. —Bachelder's Combination attracted another very good audience last evening, and as on every previous occasion the entertainment afforded thorough satisfac* tion. Chalet, who was in excellent voioe, fairly excelled himself, and by his quaint humour elicited very hearty applause. Tha distribution of gifts, which was a decidedly liberal one, was of course an attractive feature ; and the repetition of the American naval engagement concluded the programme. A special performance with specially low prices both for children and adults, ie announced for 3 o'clock this afternoon ; and tonight an unusually large gift distribution ieto be made. Caftitbe of a Sbal.— A fine female «?al, measuring about eight feet in length, wbb captured on tho beach at New Brighton yesterday, near the spot where tho barque B.L. was wrecked. The captors, Messrs Charles Cook and H. Drummond, had it hauled into a cart, the united effort of fiv» men being required. Tho specimen, which is in very fine condition, was brought into town and placed in a shop in Manchester street, near Parker's Registry Office, where it will be on view to-day. Flobal Display.— A novel and deoidedly effective display io now bcinp mado in one of the windows of Messrs Ballantyuo and Co., Oashel street. The goods in question are pieces of American sheeting, and each package bears a really admirable example of printing in colours. All the subjects arc flowers of tho natural bizp, and the artistic drawing and grouping and harmonious colouring of these studies places them in a decidedly higher rank than many of the illustrations to bo met with in publications devoted to floriculture. St Clabk Comedy Company.— Undfr trhe above rather high sounding title, a few Ohristchuroh amateurs performed " A Capital Match" and " My Precious Botsy " last night at the Oddfellows' Hall, in tho presence of a few of the public and a larger muster of friends. Some of tbe characters wore stated in the programme to bo " originnl," ond their conception certainly was. Beyond, however, a little difficulty about the li's in come instances, and the feeling hardly a', home on the boards in others, the farces were fairly got through for amateurs. The programme also comprised a pianoforte selection by Mr Juncker, which was well played, two comic songs, and a cleverly executed duet on the bones by Messrs Marr and Mitchell. They appeared at the Oddfellows' Hall, Ljttelton, on Thursday, but the attendance was limited. Exhibits* f«r the Conversazione in connection with the Conteuary of Sunday Schools, will be received at the Congregational Man. cheater street, from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 21 to 24 inoinsive. -
